Be ready for Back to School Shopping

Back to School shopping can seem like a marathon of money spending madness without the right preparation. It should be fun to go shopping with the kids and see the latest trends on childrens clothes hangers, and a exiguous extra planning can make it less stressful and more affordable.

Take the time to look straight through your childrens hangers and drawers to weed out those articles that are worn out or have permanent stains. This simple task will usually free up a good amount of space. Try to get your kids to point out clothes that are too small or maybe they just don't want to wear anymore. This can go in hand-me-down boxes or to a charitable organization. It is never to early to start the idea sharing. The end of the summer is usually a good time to go straight through all of their clothes (fall, winter, spring, and summer) to get more organized for the coming year. This will also help you know what you need to look for as the season progresses.

Baby Girls Sweaters

Keeping some sort of written log that keeps track of each garment is an very organized approach, but if you do not feel like being this detailed, at least write down a few numbers. For example, maybe there are two light jackets, one heavy jacket, and four pull-over sweaters. Having this normal form written down will help you narrow down your shopping needs for cold weather clothes.

How to pick the excellent Putter - It's a Lifelong Quest

Selecting a putter is a personal thing, there is no literal, putter that works best for everyone. Your own preferences matter most. There are some normal guidelines to supervene so the love affair that begins when you first set eyes on that attractiveness of a perfect putter in the pro shop, lasts when you take it out on the procedure for a golf date. I'll talk about these normal guidelines of choosing a putter added below.

Please keep in mind as you read this description of mine about choosing a putter, that I am gladly not a golf professional. I would be very inept at selling hugely marked-up logo shirts and sweaters in a pro shop. I have a solid 10.2 Usga Handicap Index that I've earned playing courses in the Pinehurst, North Carolina area. I also have a plentiful variety of perfect putters. I have seen golf professionals on television using their putters. So, as you can see, I am an devotee at choosing a perfect putter.

When choosing your perfect putter, the only thing that matters is that it works for you. For a serious golfer, finding the perfect putter is a lifelong quest.

Your putter has to look good when you set up to the ball, and has to feel good while your putting stroke. You must have belief when you putt. Putting belief begins when you have a putter you like and trust.

If you are like most golfers, your putting success may rise and fall over the procedure of a season (or even a round!) Some costly and rare days you're hot, most days you are probably lukewarm, and sadly, some awful days you are ice-cold on the greens. Hopefully, you have a perfect putter you can trust while all these times.

As golfers, we are all the time searching for the perfect putter. A golfer plainly knows that somewhere in the world there's a putter that was ordained to be the perfect putter for him or her.

A perfect putter will work time after time with no uncertainty, and never let the golfer down. Putts of any distance, on any kind of green with any kind of grass, and rolling up and down mounds of buried elephants in the green, will drop in the hole as by divine intervention when you have the perfect putter. Some who do not understand golf, golfers, or putters may say there is no perfect putter, that such a thing is a myth. We know better.

It is a sad fact of life in this fallen world, that your perfect putter does not arrive with you when you are born. You must find your perfect putter. If you have not found that putter yet, then have faith! You must start or continue your perfect putter life quest. That putter is out there somewhere in the world right now, waiting... Waiting... Waiting, to be found by you.

The perfect putter is love at first sight.

The perfect putter could cost hundreds of dollars from a pro shop, could be practice built, could be so gorgeous it is a work of art, or it could be bought out of an old, stinky, filthy, oil drum at a flea market, look like a rusted piece of twisted metal dredged from the depths Lake Erie, and bought for mere pennies. None of this matters as long as it is the perfect putter for you. You know it the moment you see it and first waggle it.

Once you find that perfect putter then you will (and should) safe it with your life. Think of Ben Crenshaw and his putter. Exiguous Ben is a Wilson 8802 classic blade style putter Crenshaw found on a rack at Lions Municipal Golf procedure many years ago. It has been rumored that Ben beyond doubt uses two same 8802s, and will select the one to use based on its feel at the singular time. We all want a connection with our putter like Ben Crenshaw has with Exiguous Ben. Ben Crenshaw has his perfect putter. Where's mine? Where's yours?

I will often refer in my below normal guidelines of choosing a perfect putter, to a "competent golf professional or golf club repairman." I have repeated and stressed this phrase not to be monotonous, but because having such an personel to work on any of your golf clubs is an absolute necessity. Even more so when we're talking about your perfect putter.

It is often assumed that the skills, knowledge, and quality of golf professionals or golf club repairmen are all of equally high quality. In my opinion, this is not true. As with any endeavor, there are some who are more proficient than others. Get yourself a competent golf professional or golf club repairman. Think it a form of self-defense.

Putter Length

The distance of the putter is leading because you must be comfortable when you address the ball. You don't want a putter that's too short because then you'll feel uncomfortable as you hunch over at address. Plus, you'll help make a chiropractor richer than he or she should be when you get your back straightened out.

A putter that's too long will get you out of position at address. At address, you will feel out of place because you'll be standing too tall or too far away from the ball. You may feel like maybe you need stronger glasses because at an address position with a putter that's too long in length, the ball looks like a small, fuzzy tennis ball. Maybe too, things are fuzzy because you've had too much to drink from the beer cart that's been following your foursome too closely. Beer cart girls are experts at picking the weakest prey and thinning out the herd. Beware of them.

When you address a putt with your putter, you will probably position yourself in a manner that you plainly judge to be the most sufficient for your body to be organized, so you can hit that small white ball sitting down there on the plane green grass. You want the putter's distance to match where your hands plainly fall to grip a putter while you are in this position. Where your hands are, is where the putter grip should be. You don't want to adjust yourself to the putter. Pick a putter distance that matches you. Don't adjust yourself to the putter. If you must know, most professionals use a 35-inch distance putter. This does not mean your putter has to be 35-inches long.

Putter Lie

The putter's lie is plainly how the putter head rests on the green. The sole of the putter head should lie flat, or square, on the green as you take your natural address position. The toe of the putter should not be sticking up in the air, nor should the heel be waving nearby in the air. Your perfect putter will have a lie that suits you. Your perfect putter's lie will be true, it will not lie to you.

The lie of the putter is leading because every putter has a sweet spot. The sweet spot of a putter should be below the putter's center of gravity (or the balance point). The sweet spot is only a tiny spot on the putter face, it is where you want to hit the ball for the best results. Every putter has a sweet spot... But I've met some putters that seemed to be lacking such. Those putters never became my friends. Any aiming lines or devices on your putter should match up with the sweet spot.

If the lie of the putter is too flat or too upright for your putter address position, then the sweet spot will be in the wrong place (maybe out in La - Lower Akron). You will have the best opening of development solid and consistent putts when the putter's lie is correct, with the entirety of the sole of the putter contacting the green. Then you have the sweet spot right where it should be, just as the genius designer designed it.

The lie can be altered by a competent golf professional or golf club repairman. He or she can determine what your putter's lie should be and then use a machine to bend the putter to the desired lie. Likewise, this person could also correctly add or subtract distance to your putter.

Loft

Believe it or not, all putters have and need some loft. The putter's loft is generally something you can trust the putter designer and maker to get right for you. Putter loft can be altered by a competent golf professional or golf club repairman. You may want to Think checking or changing your putter's loft if you encounter either of two situations:

* If you play greens that are rough and slow, then you may need more putter loft. This will allow the putted ball to get up on the green's grass faster and roll better, rather than the ball being mashed into the grass blades and then going hoppitty bumppitty all the way home.
* If you play greens that are fast and smooth, then you may need a putter that has less loft. A less lofted putter in these green conditions will get the ball rolling good and faster than a putter with too much loft.

Consult your competent golf professional or golf club repairman about your putter's loft and the usual or normal greens you play. Maybe some magic adjustments can be made to your putter's loft to make your perfect putter even more perfect.

The Putter Grip

If you find the perfect putter for you, but the grip is not what you have in mind, then the grip can be changed. Your competent golf professional or golf club repairman can show you a number of dissimilar putter grip selections and install the one that's just perfect for you on that perfect putter. If you convert your mind later on, then try other grip. Your competent golf professional or golf club repairman will happily contribute regripping services as many times as needed, or until you run out of money.

The grip you select for your putter is a personal choice. There is no wrong or right grip option for everyone. Rubber, leather, some other material, thin, thick, smooth, or grooved, whatever works for you is the type of grip you want on your putter.

When you find the perfect grip for your putter, it might be wise to buy a backup contribute of these putter grips to have handy in case you ever need to replace the putter grip. Grips are relatively uncostly and grip manufacturers do terminate grip models from time to time. So, if you find the perfect putter grip, buy some extras and store them away in a safe place. Your local golf professional, golf club repairman, or golf store will joyfully sell you as many putter grips as you want and can afford. Extra perfect putter grips are good to have nearby when you find your next perfect putter and need to install the perfect grip on it. So, get a grip.

Putter Weight

As with all factors in choosing your perfect putter, the comprehensive weight of the putter is a personal choice. In general, a heavier putter might do good if you regularly putt on slow greens. A lighter putter might be good if you regularly putt on fast greens. However, maybe you have the touch to adjust for whatever speed of greens you encounter and can all the time use the same putter. It all depends on what you prefer... Are you finding a persisting theme here? For professionals, most putters weigh somewhere in the 16 to 17 ounce range. Your putter should weigh the perfect weight for you.

One idea, if you have the perfect putter and wind up putting on greens that are slower than you are used to (of course, this will be the green superintendent's fault that your perfect putts come up short all day long on his too slow greens) and think the putter could use a bit more weight, then there is a quick and easy solution.

Ask that competent golf professional or golf club repairman if he or she has any lead tape for sale. Apply the lead tape to your putter head to add the weight needed to accomplish the feel you need for the greens superintendent's too slow greens. After the slow greens superintendent is supplanted and a speedier greens superintendent is hired, you can beyond doubt remove the lead tape and then things will be grand again. So, there is no need to go shopping for other perfect putter that's heavier than your current perfect putter. Extra weight on a putter can beyond doubt be shed if it was added using lead tape.

If your putter is too heavy and you need it to be lighter, then you must start playing golf on the moon. That's what Alan Shepard did. Okay, instead of thoughprovoking to the moon talk to your competent golf professional or golf club repairman about needing to make your putter lighter. He or she may be able to help... "I have some nice new putter models over here Mr. Perfectputterman, I'm sure I have one that's just the weight you're finding for..."

Putter Styles

There is a myriad of putter styles. There are mallets, center-shafters, offsets, blades, blades with flanges, heel-toe weighted, and every other compound or permutation than Carter has oats. There are all kinds of alignment aids and devices used on putter heads. Guess what? whatever you prefer is the best style for you!

What You Must Do

What you must do if you have not yet found the perfect putter is to keep looking. Remember, it's out there somewhere. finding your perfect putter is a life-long quest. all the time try out that perfect putter before you fork over any of your hard-earned lettuce. Just as with women, putter looks can be deceiving. Many a perfect putter on the pro shop rack can turn into a rattlesnake when you use it on a real putting green. Don't get bit.

A competent golf professional or golf club merchant will allow you to test a putter before you buy it. If not, then run, don't walk, away from that putter... Unless of course, you are beyond doubt confident that the putter is the perfect one for you.

If you have to make your test putts on an indoor astro-turf or carpet putting green, then that will probably be okay. Just make sure your competent golf professional or golf club merchant hasn't rigged that fake green like a shooting gallery at a traveling carnival. "Gee! I can't miss with this baby!" you'll exclaim, as the person behind the counter knowingly smiles, and asks if you want to pay with cash or credit.

Summary, Some Final Thoughts, and Comments

* Your perfect putter is your choice, it has to be perfect only for you.
* supervene the normal guidelines presented here regarding length, lie, loft, weight, and grip when searching for your perfect putter.
* Do some test putting with a prospective perfect putter before you buy it.
* If your perfect putter is off in some of its technical aspects, then a competent golf professional or golf club repairman can make the needed changes to make your perfect putter even more perfect. A golf professional or golf club repairman will happily convert the grip, shaft, and/or head of a putter to make it perfect for you, and will repeat these adjustments as often as needed.
* Before you turn any putter or golf club over to be changed or otherwise worked on, please make sure the professional or golf club repairman knows what he or she is doing. You want to find a competent golf professional or golf club repairman. I learned this chapter the hard way when I had a perfect putter altered incorrectly and beyond recovery. One day it was perfect, but in need of a simple lie tweak. The next day it was only good as a stake for tomato plants, with the same lie it had before I had it more perfectly perfected by an ogre of a golf club repairman. But I'm over it, it doesn't bother me anymore. Yeah, I'm over it.
* Golf is easy, you just keep hitting the ball until it goes in the hole. The hard part is counting up all the strokes.

So, after all this you might be wondering what my perfect putter is. My current perfect putter is a Ping Sedona i model. This putter is probably 5 or 6 years old and I bought it new. The grip is former and I have added no lead tape to it. It seems to be the one putter I feel most comfortable with. I have my good days and my bad days with it, but the third putt all the time goes in.

Kids Christmas Fashions

The Christmas season is upon us and it's time to get the girl's red dresses on and the Christmas dress-ups out for house pictures and greeting cards. This years Christmas fashions are spotlighting red and black, which are two colors you can truly concentrate into your child's Christmas fashions.

For house photographs, try going with the same base color and separate accessories or textures. For example, if your chose the color red, let your husband wear his popular red sweater while you don your satin shirt. Add a belt to your girls red dresses and a button-up shirt to your sons red vest. The limited variations in your dress will allow for more personality to show through in your picture while the base color will unite the image. Letting your children pick some of the variations, like letting the girls pick out a headband and the boys their tie, will help make Christmas dress-ups not quite as "boring" for your children.

Baby Girls Sweaters

Little girls love to dress up and feel like princesses. The princess look is bigger than ever right now, so let your limited girl be like her own princess. It is easy to help a limited girl look like a Christmas princess. Put her in a red dress, silk is a great choice for the princess look, and curl her hair. Add some white gloves or a tiara to the outfit, and don't forget the shoes! Since girls love to mimic the adults around them, let her carry a purse. She will truly feel like a princess then!

Getting boys to undergo Christmas dress-ups is much more difficult. If you let them help pick out the outfit, he'll be more prone to enjoy wearing it. Compromise: let him pick out the sweater while you pick out the shirt, or vice versa. That way you can exact any fashion disasters (like a grey argyle sweater vest!) with something a limited more proper for the Christmas season (like a red textured button-up that ties in that argyle with the right level of sophistication). Remember, boys like to look like their role models, so make sure your husband is dressed well too!

This year, try adding a few items of Christmas décor to the dress-up box to encourage Christmas in your child's imaginative play. Creating Christmas dress-ups can be a fun house activity. Add in a Santa hat and boots, and a girls red dress. Make a tiara from faux holly or make a anklet from brass holiday bells. These are craft ideas that your child may want to help with too! You can add a snowman costume to the dress-ups by adding a white sheet and felt coals and a felt carrot. Use Velcro to attach these to the sheet, and don't forget the top hat! Children will enjoy decorating each other as a snowman and stuffing the sheet with pillows to achieve the best snowman look. Play some holiday music and encourage your children to engage in the holiday.

You can also add a nativity scene to the Christmas dress-ups. Clothing can be truly created from sheets, using belts or scarves for sashes. With nativity scenes the important items are the accessories, like a staff (broom handle) for the shepherds, wings for the angels, and a baby Jesus for Mary.

With the plentifulness of Christmas socials and guests, it is important for your kids to not only look their best, but to engage themselves into the Christmas spirit.

Toddler Girl Clothing - Dresses

Are you a mum struggling to form something to put on your small girl in the morning? What do you have in mind? When I go to dress my small girl in the morning, (although my wife regularly does it), I always go right for the dresses. I feel dresses make small toddlers legitimately spectacular. For their sake and the parents sake. I love looking my daughter walk colse to in her dress, she feels comfortable, shes super pretty, and she feels "older" when she wears it!
As far as toddler girl clothing goes, I feel every parent should reconsider getting their daughter a dress or two.

One of the main reasons I feel this way is due to the fact that your child does legitimately reflect you as a someone in some way. If your small girl is constantly dressed in boring clothes and never has any beautiful lady like style, then what are citizen going to think of you as a mother? Go out and grab her a nice dress and show off what your all about. She'll look beautiful, and your have a great reputation!

Baby Girls Sweaters

Another surmise why I feel like dresses are appropriate, is making ready them for the future. If you let your daughter grow up wearing bland, boyish clothes, what are you sticking in her mind? You saying, oh, this is the clothes I'm suppose to wear, and all that girly clothes is something I've never seen and I don't like it! I mean by all means if you want your girl dresses like that! Go for it! If you want her to enjoy wearing dresses, going to group events and feeling good about wearing dresses, I propose starting them young! So go out, and get her some nice, stylish toddler girl clothing.

Mad Men: part 503 Tea Leaves criticism

Episode 503: Tea Leaves is a strong return to form, well directed by John Hamm. We catch up with Betty, who is more Shelly Winters than Grace Kelly this season, thanks to the real-life pregnancy of January Jones. Death is hanging over this season thickly. All that's missing are vultures on the reception desk at Sterling Cooper Draper & Price.

The part opens with contrasting scenes of Betty and Megan being zipped into dresses for isolate social occasions.

Baby Girls Sweaters

It's our first glance of Betty this season, and boy has she put on weight (this story line is out of necessity, due to January Jones's pregnancy). She has Sally and Bobby trying to pull the zipper of a powder blue June Cleaverish number, but they can't get it. It was Gone With the Wind meets John Waters.

Cut to Megan in a modish, loose-fitting dress unzipped to her butt. She's talking to her mother on the phone in French, and Don walks up and absolutely pulls the zipper. No fuss, no muss.

And thus, one of the main themes of the part is launched - middle-aged Betty, struggling with her weight...and her mortality. More on that, later.

Next, Don and Megan have supper with the guy from Heinz and his wife. At first, we see how Megan handles the dog-and-pony show. It's bumpy, but it works. It's an additional one inequity with Betty, who knew how to look pretty without interjecting her thoughts and opinions into the evening - she was very much be seen, but not heard. Not so much with Megan, who just blurts out, when asked how they met, that Don was divorced. You could almost see him wince.

But it's the conversation that happens next that sets up the next big theme of the night - youth, and generation gap. The Heinz guy and his wife have a laugh over The Rolling Stones and how much their daughter loves them. But he wants to store his beans to the younger generation and comes up with a play on the song Time Is On My Side which doesn't bear repeating. Don's not impressed, but humors the guy by saying he'll check out their upcoming concert at Forest Hills.

A secondary, but hugely satisfying storyline is advanced when we find Pete and Lane waiting in Pete's office for Roger. When Pete calls finding for him, he's informed by a secretary that Roger belief it was in his office, forcing them to come to him. It's a passive-aggressive power play in their cold war that's as silly as the old Spy vs. Spy cartoons of the same era.

The fancy for the meeting? Mohawk has been landed, and they will need a dedicated copywriter to deal with the load and make them feel special. Both Roger and Pete seem to be vying to credit on bring them back. Hmmm.

The new secretary, one of the African American candidates, ends up working for Don. Her name is Dawn, and there's much fun had with the punning possibilities. Roger, predictably insensitive, refers to her once as the darkness before Don. Sometimes, develop ain't pretty.

Don and Roger bring Peggy in and give her the good news about Mohawk. They composition the good news by putting her in payment of hiring the new copywriter. The qualifications for the position are that this man must possess a penis. "A good finding version of Don," Roger tells her.

One last plotline - Harry comes up with the Stones tickets and takes benefit of the occasion to impress Don by guiding him into the belly of the youth culture - to great comic effect.

It turns out Betty's afternoons are spent on the couch eating Bugles and watching The Andy Griffith Show. That is, when her mother-in-law isn't dropping in and meddling. The lady's mission is to protect her baby, who's none-too-happy about Betty's constant refusal to join him at social functions. It's upsetting to him, and the mother-in-law thinks she knows why. "You get comfortable. You give up a little, then it gets out of control," she says of the eating. When Betty asks her if that's what happened to her, she's ready for her and explains that she no longer has a man to please. "It'll be easy for you. You're just one of those girls." Snap!

So Betty goes to the doctor and gets to the point. The doctor points out that for middle-aged women (ouch!) it gets easier to pack on the pounds and harder to take them off. When she presses for the recommended diet pills, he refuses to do it without an exam, explaining that rapid weight loss is usually psychological in nature, having to do with everything we've seen in Betty over the four previous seasons.

He starts feeling nearby her neck and finds something he doesn't like and schedules her for a follow-up exam, sending Betty into a free-fall panic.

It's at this point that I associated Betty's mortality to the comments about Don from the season opener and saw the cloud of death hanging over this couple. Two episodes in, and it's getting pretty dark.

Betty gets home, but can't find Henry. She calls Don, who seems absolutely involved for her welfare. He does the typical ledge-talking until she ultimately tells him to "say the thing you always say." He tells her that everything's going to be okay. Even though she's manufactured it, just hearing him say it is good enough for this middle-aged itsybitsy girl, and she gets off the phone and goes about her business. He, on the other hand, is haunted by the news. Is it out of concern and some love for her, or is it a reminder of his own mortality?

Just as I was getting bummed out, Peggy and Stan rescued me with their banter. She's on the couch, pissed off at the mediocre portfolios wasting her time. And then she finds one with "Judge not, lest ye be judged" printed on the outside. She's interested, then rewarded by some good work on the inside. She shows it to Stan who's also impressed, but tosses it on the reject pile. The ensuing seminar perfectly showcases not only their personality differences, but the inequity in the middle of Peggy (and by postponement Don) and the rest of the Scdp gang (and most of the world). Stan advises her to stick with a mediocre candidate, lest she be working for him someday. She rejects the advice, saying that she's inspired by good work. Stan tells her to suit herself, but that mediocrity makes for more restful sleep at night. Technically, he's right, which is why it's a C- world that we live in.

Peggy brings in the clever guy, Michael Ginsburg, an obnoxiously neurotic striver, and he immediately sees straight through Peggy's pretending to be the authority. He knows of Don's reputation, and asks about him often. Peggy sounds like a 13 year old on her first babysitting gig, declaring her authority. But there's a weird chemistry in the middle of the two, an Abbott and Costello-ish potential about them that had me rooting for them immediately.

At the hospital, to have her tests done, Betty runs into an old friend who's unaware of the separation from Don or marriage to Henry. After an awkward hello (the woman is in for her own cancer treatment), the old friend - Joyce - invites Betty to lunch.

At lunch, after some small talk, Betty makes a bold move for her. She asks Joyce a personal inquire - what it's like dealing with the cancer. Joyce tells her it's like being in the ocean alone, paddling, but getting supplementary from the shore. But rather than panicking, she says her mind goes to normal things. She tells Betty "You get tired, and then you give in and you hope you go level down."

Betty shivers at the belief as a gypsy approaches them, request to read their tea leaves. Joyce laughs at the belief of having their futures read and gives the poor woman Betty's cup. The gypsy does her thing, looks into the cup, and declares that Betty possesses a "great soul. You mean so much to the habitancy nearby you. You're a rock." This notification drives Betty to tears, and Joyce tips her and shoos her away.

Later, when Betty is in bed with Henry, who must have a lot of pent-up desire, she initiates intimacy, which shocks him. This, after refusing to let him see her get out of the tub.

Later, she has a dream, which Henry later, unknowingly and perfectly links to Scrooge's Christmas Eve journey, where she sees her family dealing with the aftermath of her death. It's cold, just as you'd expect from her, with Henry chanting "if, if, if...." It's a trippy touch that wakes her from her sleep.

As Betty's dealing with the impending news from her side, Don is in a funk himself, but he keeps the news from Megan, still holding lids on some of his compartments.

As Don leaves to pick up Harry for the Stones concert, Megan kisses him and tells him he looks so square that he has corners, to which he says that he has to look like a man. Interesting. This whole episode, I had Dylan's "The Times They Are A'Changin'" running straight through my mind - the verse about moms and dads and getting out of the way if you don't understand what's going on.

The generation gap is supplementary delineated when Don and Harry are backstage at the concert with groupies and other hangers-on. It's an additional one odd concentrate pairing, with Harry contrasting Don's studied cool with his painfully awkward endeavor at trying to fit in with the kids with his turtleneck sweater and jacket and bushy hair.

As they wait for an audience with Allan Klein, the manager of the Stones, a concentrate of fourteen year old girls advent them, finding for cigarettes. One of them teases the two, calling them Derwood and Mr. Kravitz from Bewitched. Harry works and works to gain their acceptance, using references they don't get until at last, one of the girls takes him off to find the band, leaving Don with the other.

I have to admit that I wondered where Don would go with this one. Last season he would have bedded her, but this is an additional one season, and Don's got deep thoughts on his mind. He's paternal with this girl, and refuses to riposte her flirts. Instead, he first goes into clinical-always-working Don mode and asks her questions about why she likes the Stones and how she feels when she hears them. On the one hand, I think "man, he doesn't get it. The Stones weren't/aren't a product being bought and sold. They were part of a revolution - The Sixties!" But an additional one part of me immediately responded "Oh, really?"

And this is where Don's going to live, I guess, this season, in the gap of not understanding or dealing with the changes to the world at-large and his world that are happening. By choosing Megan he seems to have instinctively put his chips all-in on the young, optimistic, new, and frightening reality, turning his back on the old. But it doesn't mean he gets it or is comfortable with it.

The young girl picks up on his line of questioning, finding it for what it is, and asks him if he's a psychiatrist. When Don asks her what she knows about psychiatrists, she looks down, then asks for a company card, saying she'll use it to get in to see the band. Later, Don asks her what she expects to happen if she meets the band. She gushes over Brian Jones. Don pushes the point. "Then what?" He keeps on until she tells him that "None of you wants us to have any fun because you never did." Don snaps back, "No. We're worried about you." It's both very touching and very much a dad kind of remark.

I don't think we've seen the last of this 14 year old girl who has Don Draper's company card.

The night ends a failure. Harry comes back bragging that he met the band, but instead met and signed the Tradewinds. They have a nice moment in Don's car. Harry's been smoking pot, and now he's eating a bag of hamburgers meant for his family. Don can't get rid of him. Poor, sad Harry.

The next morning, Megan wakes Don so they can go to Fire Island and hang with her friends. He's hungover and doesn't want to go. He has her sit down in a dramatic fashion that freaks her out (she knows his reputation). When he tells her that it's only Betty maybe having cancer, you can see how relieved she is. But she's a itsybitsy bit pissed that he hid it from her. He confesses that he didn't know how she'd react. When she brushes away his concerns, which sound like Betty, she takes the Don position and tells him "Come on. There's nothing you can do." It's her version of everything's going to be okay. She reaches out her hand, he takes it, and follows her - content to let her do the reasoning and worrying for once.

This is huge. Again, it's Don letting go - if just a itsybitsy - of the clamped-down Don Draper who controls everything and trusts no one. It's a glimpse, perhaps, of the new Don Draper...of Dick Whitman.

We find out the date when we see Betty and Henry sitting in Adirondack chairs in front of Henry's suited Hudson Valley mansion in the evening as the kids play with sparklers - it's the Fourth of July. And though there may not be explosions, the fuse has been lit on some big changes in this world.

Peggy is nervous about Don meeting Ginsburg, but the meeting couldn't have gone better, which shocks the hell out of Peggy. The Ginsburg in the meeting seems almost normal, aside from his plaid sport coat. Despite that, Peggy tries to riposte all of Ginbsburg's questions for him until Don ultimately shuts her up. Ginsburg defers to Don, thoughprovoking to his ego by citing Don's Lucky strike letter as an inspiration to him, and after an eloquent appeal, Don welcomes him to the agency, holding Peggy behind to congratulate her.

As Don and Peggy leave his office, they find Ginsburg kneeling on a sofa, finding out the window of their high-rise office construction with Roger. It's a weird photograph that Roger turns weirder when he says "it turns out we both have a dream of throwing something out this window." For Roger, it's probably Pete Campbell. I have no idea what Ginsburg's deal was. But I couldn't help going back to my wife's prediction that Don will at last take the plunge himself one day. We'll see.

The next day, Pete makes the notification to the entire agency that Mohawk is back in the fold. It's a big yield that he must have carefully planned, and in it, he took credit for bringing Mohawk back, of hiring the new copywriter, and of handing off the busy-work to Roger. It's a social humiliation that was lost on every person but Pete, Don, and Roger. John Slattery should win an Emmy just for the look he gives Pete in that moment - composition of hurt, shame, hatred and realization that his days as an alpha are over. It's Pete's world now, an echo of Don's youth storyline, except that Roger won't embrace the new. Rather, he tried to co-opt it by marrying young, but ended up hating Trudy just like he hates Pete.

Don follows Roger and they go to Don's office to drink. Roger vents his spleen, confessing that he feels as if he's hanging from a ledge with Pete stepping on his fingers. He goes on until Don springs his surprise about Betty. Leave it to Roger to have the bottom line tastelessly figured out: Don - "Betty has cancer." Roger - "That would solve everything." Don give him a look, then he goes to the clichés - "She's a fighter." Don - "Come on." Don, with on male to turn to, goes to Roger, a kind of father or big brother, and gets bullshit. But then, Roger gets serious. "Actual life and death. I've given up on that." To which Don replies that he can't do that. Roger, confused and resigned or resolved to carry-on, gets up and pauses at the door to ask when it's all going to get back to normal.

When Betty ultimately learns that her tumor is benign, she isn't as happy as one would expect. Henry's happy and makes the Scrooge relationship - that she's been given a second chance. But all Betty can see is that she's merely fat...like Henry's mom. There's no resolution, and their marriage seems more doomed that hers to Don. There's nothing real, no connection, no intimacy. It's a sham, and they both seem to know it while they're powerless to do anyone about it.

Later, when Don calls to ask about the news, Henry answers and is surprised to learn that Don knows. He gives Don the news then blows him off, then lies to Betty about who it was.

Don is relieved at the good news, which relieves him of having to consider all of the implications of a world with no Bets. Megan walks in, which cheers him up. He's glad to see her, declaring that she's so optimistic.

The part ends with two very touching scenes.

In the first, Ginsburg arrives home at a cramped and dingy apartment. His elderly father sits in his chair, reading the paper, lamenting the passing of an old Redsox player. Ginsburg announces that he got the job. His father rises, comes to the kitchen, and says a prayer, in Yiddish, I presume, over his son that moved me to tears. It was so well written and executed - the bare minimum in terms of information/exposition, but loaded with story and meaning. Beautiful.

Finally, we end on Betty. She has made Sundaes for her and Sally, who can't terminate hers. After Sally asks to be excused to watch Tv, Betty pushes aside her empty glass, and finishes Sally's, as the showtune "16 going on 17" plays to close the episode.
